Founded in 1976 with just three vessels, the company has grown into the world’s eighth‑largest container carrier, headquartered in Seoul with six regional headquarters worldwide - including its UK and European hub in London. Today, HMM operates a modern fleet of more than 100 vessels, among them some of the world’s largest 24,000 TEU Megamax‑24 class container ships, alongside a growing portfolio of eco‑friendly tonnage powered by methanol, LNG, and other alternative fuels.

The company is pursuing an ambitious environmental roadmap with the goal of achieving net‑zero carbon emissions across its fleet by 2045. Recent milestones include the introduction of nine methanol‑powered 9,000 TEU vessels entering service from 2025, and the expansion of LNG capacity with twelve 13,000 TEU LNG dual‑fuel vessels scheduled for phased delivery between 2027 and 2028. These efforts are complemented by the rollout of advanced marine biofuels and ongoing field trials of onboard carbon capture systems, which began in the summer of 2024.
