XPO has been awarded the prestigious EcoVadis Gold Medal for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) strategy and performance in 2024. This accolade represents a significant step up from the Silver Medal the company held for four consecutive years. XPO´s rise to the 97th percentile demonstrates its ability to excel in an even more competitive and challenging environment and places XPO Logistics among the top 3% of all companies assessed globally and within the top 1% of road transport companies in Europe.

Luis Gómez, President of XPO Logistics - Europe, said:

“Achieving the EcoVadis Gold Medal is a testament to XPO´s relentless drive to improve our operational practices and sustainability initiatives. This recognition reflects our commitment to leading the way in sustainable logistics, not just meeting but exceeding the evolving expectations of our valued customers, partners and stakeholders.”

XPO Logistics´ journey from Silver to Gold has been fuelled by the company’s commitment to continuous improvement and innovation. Key initiatives include the expansion of the LESS® (Low Emissions Sustainable Solutions) programme, which gives customers access to sustainable transport options, such as biofuels and multimodal solutions that reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, XPO in Europe has strengthened its environmental and ethical practices through enriched employee training, rigorous risk management, the introduction of a comprehensive Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) scorecard and joining the United Nations Global Compact Project.

The company’s ability to implement cutting-edge technology has also played a key role in its success. By optimising routes and reducing empty kilometres, XPO Logistics has slashed its environmental impact while delivering more efficient services to its customers. These efforts are part of the firm’s broader strategy to achieve carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050.

The Ecovadis Gold Medal is more than a recognition of past achievements; it represents a commitment to future growth and sustainability leadership. The company’s efforts extend across all four pillars of EcoVadis’ assessment: Environment, Labor and Human Rights, Ethics, and Sustainable Procurement. By continuously advancing in each area, XPO Logistics is setting new standards for the logistics industry in Europe.

XPO Logistics' end-to-end service offering includes full load, part load, managed transport, last mile delivery, international transport solutions and contract logistics; all optimised through technology. The company continues to innovate and lead in sustainability and remains dedicated to its vision of a greener and more efficient logistics network. The company will build on this momentum, further boosting its CSR strategy to meet the challenges of tomorrow while continuing to deliver exceptional value to its customers and stakeholders.

Separately, XPO has added its Leicester shared user distribution centre with an in-house pallet network to its list of certified carbon neutral sites. This achievement is part of the company’s commitment to sustainability and to meeting its carbon neutral goals.

Leicester is the company's third carbon neutral certified site. The XPO Logistics partner site with Daimler Truck UK Limited in Milton Keynes achieved carbon neutral status in June, and the company´s UK and Ireland HQ and Central Hub at Crick, Northamptonshire, attained it last summer, six months ahead of schedule.

Dan Myers, Managing Director—UK and Ireland, XPO Logistics, said:

“As a team, we’re focused on taking meaningful steps to achieve our goal of carbon neutrality. We know there is still much to do, but our work makes a difference in decarbonising our customers' supply chains and reducing their scope three emissions. This is yet another step towards our goal.”

The Leicester site was constructed to BREEAM Carbon Neutral standard, and the company is taking further actions to control and minimise carbon emissions. These include actively managing water demand through metering and monitoring usage across the site, implementing efforts to minimise resource consumption, and incorporating active zone controls and passive occupancy sensors for all LED lighting. All energy supplied is also derived from wind, solar, and hydro energy. By working with its waste contractor, XPO Logistics has achieved zero waste in landfills and high levels of segregation at its Leicester site, which drives a high recycling rate.
