The UK Major Ports Group (UKMPG), the trade body for the UK's largest port operators has announced the appointment of Henrik Lundgaard Pedersen, CEO of Associated British Ports (ABP), as its new Chair and Claudio Veritiero, CEO of Peel Ports Group as Vice Chair.
The new team brings together leaders from across the UK's largest port operators who operate in a wide range of sectors and cargo types. Henrik takes the baton from the outgoing Chair Charles Hammond OBE, CEO of Forth Ports Limited. Charles has been deeply involved in the work of the UKMPG, working closely with new CEO Geraint Evans. Charles was thanked for his tenure as chair to UK Major Ports Group during a reception last night.
Transport Secretary Mark Harper said:
“Ports play a pivotal role for businesses and supply chains across the UK, helping to grow the economy and sustain skilled jobs. I would like to congratulate Charles for being a great champion for major ports and I look forward to continuing to work with Henrik, Geraint and Claudio at UKMPG to support our vital UK ports now and in the future.”
2023 marks the 30th anniversary of the UK Major Ports Group. Formed by a small group of pioneering and ambitious port leaders, today it continues that ethos of ambition, growth and delivering through major port operator investment substantial value to the UK.
In this anniversary year UKMPG members recommit to delivering the port infrastructure and services that underpin the UK's trade with the world, much greater sustainability and boosting jobs, prosperity and opportunity in coastal communities all around the UK.
Promoting sustainability and ports’ role in accelerating the UK’s journey towards net zero will be a key focus for Henrik, who will draw on his experience from ABP, the UK’s leading port operator.
Current UKMPG members are Associated British Ports, Belfast Harbour, The Bristol Port Company, DP World UK, Forth Ports Limited, Hutchison Ports (UK), PD Ports, Peel Ports Group and the Port of London Authority
