Raft and The Loadstar have released The AI Readiness Gap: Why AI Adoption in Supply Chain Depends on Organisational Change, Not Better Models at Multimodal 2026 - a new research report drawing on insights from over 200+ supply chain executives and practitioners globally.
AI investment in supply chain is rising. Pilots are running. But for the majority of organisations, a significant gap persists between initial experimentation and operational scale - and the data shows the barriers are organisational, not technological.
Key findings include:
- The deployment gap is wider than most leaders acknowledge. Two thirds have AI running in some form - but only 1 in 14 say it is core to how they operate.
- Most organisations cannot tell you if AI is working. 62.8% of respondents have not measured AI ROI - or do not know how to. Without clear metrics, the internal case for continued investment is difficult to make and easy to cut.
- Trust remains the missing ingredient. Only 4.3% of respondents report high trust in AI outputs, and 68.1% still require human review before acting on AI recommendations. The barrier to scaling is not access to AI - it is confidence in what it produces.

The organisations making progress share a common thread: hybrid ownership models, clear internal accountability, and change management treated as an operational discipline. 44.9% of respondents believe willingness to experiment, learn, and iterate will be the defining trait of AI leaders over the next two to three years.
The companies pulling ahead aren't necessarily those with the most sophisticated AI - they are the ones that have invested in the internal operating models, the talent, and the change management infrastructure to convert AI opportunity into a repeatable advantage.
