Suttons Tankers acquired by Schenk Tanktransport

The Sutton and Broadhurst families have sold their interest in Suttons Tankers Holdings Limited, and it’s trading subsidiary Suttons Tankers Limited to Schenk Tanktransport who are based in the Netherlands.

Suttons Tankers comprises all of the UK based road tanker operations owned by the family; however, the deal does not include the European and global ISO tank operations of Suttons International Limited or any of its overseas subsidiaries which will continue to be managed by its existing management team led by CEO John Sutton.

Schenk is a leading tank transport company in North-West Europe, specialised in transportation of liquid Food, Chemicals, Gas and (bio)Fuels. Schenk has over 1,750 employees, generates a turnover of around €300mio and has sites throughout the operating area. The head office is located in Papendrecht (NL). It also has its own branches in Antwerp (BE), Leudelange (LU) and Gelsenkirchen (DE). The acquisition of Suttons Tankers will allow it to extend its footprint both geographically and into new product areas.

Suttons Tankers will continue to operate under its current management team in the UK led by Managing Director Michael Cundy who will report to Schenk CEO Marcel Classen.

John Sutton said:

“The family have operated in the road transport market for almost 100 years, with the business originally being founded by our grandfather, Alf Sutton. It has developed rapidly over the last 10 years under the current management team growing a significant presence in the UK market. Schenck are a company with a very similar history and culture, and we believe that they are the right owners to take the business to the next stage of its development.

“I would like to thank the management and employees for their dedication and support over the years and wish them a long and happy future as part of the wider Schenk family where I am sure it will thrive and grow.

“The family will continue to own Suttons International Limited, and the deal will allow us to focus our future efforts on its continued development and growth.”
