Onward returns to the road after 32-year hiatus

Onward, an historic name in British haulage, is making a welcome return to the tarmac.

After a 32-year hiatus from the road, Onward has officially relaunched its transport operations, deploying a tractor unit and six dedicated trailers to provide specialised shunting services for a key third-party logistics (3PL) client of their Yorkshire Warehousing brand.

The new fleet strikes a perfect balance between heritage and modernity. The tractor unit features an updated, contemporary take on the classic Onward livery last seen in 1994, while the six new trailers proudly carry the branding of Yorkshire Warehousing.

Founded in 1930 by Bill Storey, Onward originally grew into a formidable transport operation boasting a fleet of more than 100 vehicles. Following the sale of the transport division to BOC in 1994, the company pivoted its focus toward commercial property, later returning to the logistics sector in 2010. Since then, its 3PL operations have scaled significantly. This latest move to bring transport services in-house represents the next logical step in the company’s growth strategy.

Today, Yorkshire Warehousing operates out of a flagship 90,000 sqft facility in Castleford, West Yorkshire, boasting a capacity of 10,000 pallets.

For the family, the relaunch is as much an emotional milestone as it is a strategic business expansion.

"Our business had trucks on the road for over 60 years; it’s been a massive part of our lives, and the whole family is incredibly excited to see the Onward name hitting the road once again," said Neil Storey, Sales Director for Onward and Yorkshire Warehousing.

Representing the next chapter of the business, Business Director Kieren Bloomer added:

"As part of the fourth generation of our family, many of us have never actually seen an Onward truck on the road. Seeing this happen is truly special for us, and practically, it allows us to offer an excellent, seamless asset-based solution to our 3PL customers."
