Maritime Transport has been named Sustainability Company of the Year at the Multimodal Awards 2026, held on Tuesday 30th June at the VOX, Birmingham.
The Multimodal Awards are one of the UK logistics industry’s most prestigious awards programmes, recognising excellence across air, road, rail, maritime, and freight forwarding. The ceremony took place during this year’s Multimodal exhibition, the UK’s flagship logistics and supply chain event, and brought together hundreds of professionals from across the industry to celebrate the businesses, teams, and individuals making a significant contribution to the sector.
The independently judged Sustainability Company of the Year category, sponsored this year by Evergreen Line, recognises businesses that can demonstrate measurable progress, achievable targets, company-wide adoption, and long-term vision in the delivery of sustainable growth. The achievement carries added significance as Maritime entered the category for the first time.
Announcing the award, the judges said:
“They stand out for delivering one of the most comprehensive and credible decarbonisation strategies in UK logistics. By combining significant investment in rail, zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure with measurable progress against ambitious science-based targets, the business demonstrates that large-scale, practical decarbonisation is achievable today.”
Maritime’s decarbonisation strategy focuses investment on the areas where the business can make the greatest contribution to carbon reduction: shifting long-distance container movements from road to rail, decarbonising essential road journeys that remain, and improving environmental performance through better data and more effective use of existing assets and infrastructure. These priorities support Maritime’s long-term vision to build the UK’s cleanest full-load supply chain, aligned to the company’s validated near-term SBTi commitment to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 58.8% by 2034 against a 2022 baseline, and net zero across all scopes by 2050.
The award follows a major year of delivery for Maritime, including the official opening of its new Strategic Rail Freight Interchange at SEGRO Logistics Park Northampton, continued investment in its inland rail terminal network, and the ongoing deployment of eHGVs and high-powered charging infrastructure across its national network.
Tom Williams, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Maritime Transport:
“To win Sustainability Company of the Year in our first year entering the category is a great achievement, and one that reflects the fantastic work being delivered by teams right across Maritime. We are very grateful to the judges for recognising the credibility of our strategy and the carbon reductions being achieved for our customers and the supply chain.”
