Fagan & Whalley launches first 100% HVO-fuelled depot

Fagan & Whalley has announced a significant milestone in its sustainability journey – they successfully reduced the overall group fleet’s CO2 emissions by 19% through the use of HVO fuel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil).

Their Coventry depot now exclusively stocks HVO fuel as opposed to regular diesel. This fuel, sourced from accredited suppliers and meeting International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) and Renewable Fuels Assurance Scheme (RFAS) standards, means that all vehicles fuelling here run on cleaner, more sustainable energy.

By making this bold move, Coventry becomes the first of their depots to lead the way in reducing their carbon footprint while supporting their clients’ Net Zero and Scope 3 objectives.

Operationally, F&W trucks can run on a blend of both diesel and HVO, making the move both practical and efficient for its operations. With 33% of their fuelling stations now using HVO, F&W remains committed to increasing their reliance on sustainable fuels as part of their long-term environmental strategy.

Managing Director Dan Fagan commented:

“We understand that achieving Net Zero isn’t something any business can do alone. Reaching these ambitious targets requires collective effort across the entire supply chain. It’s about everyone – suppliers, partners, and clients – coming together to make meaningful progress.

“By transitioning the Coventry depot to HVO fuel, not only are we achieving our own objectives, but we are also actively helping our clients achieve theirs. It’s been very well received by many of our customers, and it’s rewarding to know we’re contributing to their success.

“Those within the logistics industry will understand the unique set of challenges we face when it comes to sustainability. It’s a sector that’s heavily reliant on fuel, and balancing operational efficiency with reducing environmental impact is no easy task. Nevertheless, the transition to HVO has been seamless. Our trucks can run on a blend of diesel and HVO, or solely 100% HVO, without any impact on performance or efficiency. From a fiscal and environmental perspective, the decision just made sense.”
