CMA CGM PANTHEON, the largest LNG vessel to call in the UK, arrives in Southampton

The CMA CGM Group has announced the arrival of the CMA CGM PANTHEON at the Port of Southampton, one of Northern Europe's leading container ports and a strategic gateway for European and global trade.

Commissioned in May 2026, the 24,212-TEU CMA CGM PANTHEON is the largest LNG vessel to ever call in the UK. Registered under the French International Register (RIF), she reflects CMA CGM's commitment to maintaining one of the world's most modern fleets under a European flag while supporting Europe's maritime sovereignty and competitiveness. Following her naming ceremony in Shanghai, Southampton marks another important milestone in the vessel's maiden voyage between Asia and Europe.

The CMA CGM PANTHEON is the second in a new series of ten 24,000-TEU containerships registered under the French flag and embodies the Group's strategy to accelerate the decarbonisation of shipping through technological innovation and fuel diversification.

Designed to operate on LNG, the vessel is already fully compatible with renewable bio-LNG (biomethane) and, in the future, synthetic e-methane, illustrating CMA CGM's pragmatic approach to progressively deploying low-carbon fuels as they become available.

Today, CMA CGM operates one of the world's largest dual-fuel fleets and continues to invest in a diversified portfolio of low-carbon technologies, with the objective of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. By 2031, the Group expects to operate around 200 container ships capable of using low-carbon energies.

The UK is one of CMA CGM's most strategic European markets, and Southampton plays a central role in the Group's maritime and logistics activities.

CMA CGM first established its UK head office in Liverpool in 1990, expanding throughout the country with offices in Southampton, London and Teesside – reflecting its leading contribution to the UK’s trade links and to its prosperity. Today, the UK is a key hub within the Group, supported by 5 offices and 17 direct weekly services across 11 ports.

The Group serves the UK market through an extensive portfolio of shipping services connecting the country with Asia, the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and Oceania, supported by a strong local organisation and integrated logistics and intermodal capabilities.
