Biffa has entered into a partnership with GB Railfreight (GBRf) to expand its rail hub network for the transportation of inactive waste.
The partnership with GBRf will initially focus on connecting Manchester and Leeds with Biffa’s landfill facility in Roxby, near Scunthorpe.
Biffa has already opened the concomitant transfer station in Manchester, and a similar site is set to follow in Leeds in the near future. When fully operational these two strategic rail links are expected to facilitate the transportation of approximately 250,000t of inactive waste annually, the equivalent of approximately 16,000 truck journeys.
