MSC launches new vessel

MSC Sustainable shipping

MSC presents the world’s largest container ship MSC Gülsün

MSC is proud to present the world’s largest container ship MSC Gülsün, which sets a new standard in container shipping.

Our passion for the sea and commitment to helping our customers maintain sustainable supply chains have driven us to invest in some 11 ultra-large vessels, beginning with MSC Gülsün.

At some 400 metres long and more than 60 metres wide, MSC Gülsün has a record-size capacity for a container ship, 23,756 TEU, and is already deployed on our Silk Service. The brand-new class of 23,000+ TEU vessels to be added throughout 2019-2020 to our East-West network, moving goods sustainably between Asia and Europe, and connecting the rest of MSC’s global network of shipping services.

Bigger ships generally emit less CO2 per container carried, helping companies which ship goods on MSC’s services between Asia and Europe to lower the carbon footprint of their supply chains. In addition, all 23K+ TEU ships are shore-power enabled to minimise emissions at berth at ports which provide such facilities.

MSC Gülsün has a UN IMO-approved hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system to ensure compliance with the upcoming IMO 2020 regulation and has the option of switching to low-Sulphur fuel.

The ship can carry more than 2,000 reefer containers.

We strive to be our customers’ most reliable partner when it comes to the common goal of reducing the carbon footprint of goods moved around the world. We also prioritise the safety of our seafarers and of your cargo, by ensuring the new class of ships is equipped with features such as double hull protection and our dual-tower fire-fighting system. We do it for our customers, for our partners and for our home: the sea.
