New Chair for UKWA

UKWA new chair Nicola Ridges-Jones

Nicola Ridges-Jones appointed new Chair of UKWA

Nicola Ridges-Jones, Managing Director of MS Holdings (South) Ltd, has stepped into the role of chairing the UKWA Board, taking over from Stobart Aviation’s Graeme Undy.

Nicola has long experience of the warehousing and logistics industry, having taken over the reins of her father’s company, Macintyre Scott, some fifteen years ago. Now semi-retired she is looking forward to making a strong contribution as UKWA’s new Chair.

“UKWA CEO Peter Ward and his team do a fantastic  job, but I’d like to see the Board become more closely involved and  be proactive in generating new ideas and support,” she says. “There’s a great deal to do as the industry continues to change at a rapid rate and the UKWA Board has plenty to offer in terms of knowledge and expertise. My ambition is to take UKWA forward to the next level over the next two years.”

Nicola is also keen to drive home the wider message that there are excellent career opportunities for young people in warehousing and logistics, and she believes that part of the role of the UKWA at Board level is to communicate more effectively to schools, colleges and universities.

“Logistics and warehousing represent the new face of retail as consumers purchase more goods online,” she explains. “Going forward, we’re going to need more warehousing and more people, but we’re going to have to think in a different way, taking into consideration environmental factors, shopping trends and digital developments. These are very exciting times and I’m delighted to be taking on responsibility for leading the UKWA,  I look forward to taking the association forward and keeping my finger on the pulse in this fast-changing sector.”

As well as passion and experience, Nicola brings to her new role a perspective from both sides of the industry; formerly Managing Director of leading UK specialists in bonded warehousing services for the travel retail industry, she is now a landlord of commercial and residential properties, including warehouses. She is also a non-executive director of a recruitment company and acts as a mentor for Oracle Cancer Research in London.
