The food and drink industry's first all-electric HGV sets off from The Park, Europe’s largest wine packaging facility
The Park, in partnership with DAF Trucks and EV Cargo, is leading the way in sustainable manufacturing as the first UK supplier to deliver goods to retailers using all-electric HGVs.

The Park, an independent business based in Bristol, packages 25% of all wine sold in the UK. It currently ships an astonishing six million bottles of wine per week to its customers, including leading retailers such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Aldi. With the introduction of electric HGVs, when delivering 50,000 bottles a day, The Park will save 2.68kg of CO2 per litre of diesel not consumed.

Certified carbon neutral, The Park is leading the industry in sustainable production by introducing the FMCG industry's first electric HGV to deliver wine to retailers, becoming the final step of the production process, reducing the company’s carbon footprint even further.

Richard Lloyd, General Manager at The Park comments:

“At The Park, driving sustainability forward is at the core of our business. We lead the way in sustainable innovation in the wine industry and by further reducing our carbon footprint by introducing an electric HGV, we hope The Park will be a catalyst for change not just within the wine industry, but for all industries nationwide.

“There is a vital need to meet climate targets, and so businesses must find new and innovative ways to tread more lightly on the planet. As Europe’s largest wine packaging company, we recognise that we have a responsibility to ensure we play a substantial role in finding eco-solutions.”

Laurence Drake, Managing Director of DAF Trucks adds:

“As a company, we are committed to developing transport solutions for our customers that can help them deliver on their environmental and sustainability objectives. Following the success of our zero-emission electric trucks launched last year, the new CF Electric being operated by The Park and EV Cargo is one of the first zero-emission HGVs to enter the market. Working alongside like-minded partners is driving the transport industry forward.”

Andy Humpherson, Chief Executive Officer of EV Cargo Solutions continues:

“As longstanding logistics and supply chain partner, we’ve been working closely with The Park to introduce more sustainable practices within its distribution operations and today’s achievement marks a milestone for the industry. Sustainability is one of EV Cargo’s core values and we are continually looking at innovative ways to decarbonise supply chains to reduce both our, and our customers’, impact on the environment.”

Elsewhere within the business, The Park is making moves to be the first wine packaging and distribution company to send a shipping pallet with no stretch wrap, a plastic film commonly used on pallets as part of the site's commitment to see usage cut in half by 2025.

The Park’s outstanding customer service, industry knowledge and experience makes it the leading partner for wine packaging solutions. The company is a pioneer for sustainable practice in the UK wine industry and will disrupt traditional methods to ensure environmental promises are kept and achieved.

About the vehicle

The CF Electric 4x2 tractor unit being operated by The Park and EV Cargo is one of the first zero-emission trucks to enter the market. At the heart of the vehicle is a 210 kW (240 kW peak power) electric motor that draws electrical power from a 350 kWh (315 kWh effective) battery pack.

The vehicle has a range of up to 250 kilometres (depending on the application, driving circumstances and load). With smart journey planning and interim battery charging during loading and unloading, the CF Electric can potentially be used in operation 24/7.
