New rail service delivering jet fuel to Heathrow wins award
A joint entry by Railfreight Consulting, British Airways, BP, VTG, Freightliner and Network Rail has won the ‘Freight and Logistics Achievement of the Year’ award at this year’s National Rail Awards.
The team have established a new service consisting of up to 16 trains per week which delivers over 1 million tonnes of jet fuel to the airport each year, 20% of its demand. At the same time the service has taken 100 HGV round trip movements off the M25 every day. The project has seen significant private investment in new terminals and rail wagons on a service which will run for at least 15 years.
Ralph Goldney, Managing Director of Railfreight Consulting, said:
“I’m delighted to see 4 years of hard work recognised by the judges. The new service will reduce the delivery cost to the airport, improve supply chain capacity and add to the resilience within the fuel supply chain. It has also substantially reduces the carbon foot print of the haulage operation”
