Construction Starts at Prologis Park West London

15 March 2016

Fran Beasley, Chief Executive of the London Borough of Hillingdon visited Prologis Park West London on Horton Road in Hayes, to celebrate the start of construction work on two distribution facilities that have the potential to bring new jobs and training opportunities for local people.

The two new buildings, which Prologis is building speculatively, will offer 113,335 square feet and 78,780 square feet of logistics space. Designed to achieve a minimum BREEAM ‘very good’ accreditation and the best Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating possible for its size, each facility will have a rooftop solar installation to deliver 10 percent of the building’s regulated energy.Volkerfitzpatrick is the main contractor and construction work is due to complete by the end of the year.

Prologis acquired the site from the Stockley Park Consortium in September 2014 and it has planning permission for a 465,293 square foot light industrial and distribution development, with the potential to bring 650 jobs to the local area.

“This site has been vacant for over 10 years, so we are delighted to see that it will be transformed into an employment park that will bring so many benefits to Hillingdon residents,” said Fran Beasley.

Within this first phase of the development, Prologis will create new green spaces across the site for both residents and employees. The landscaping strategy includes plans to renovate and improve the towpath along the Grand Union canal, which runs along the southern boundary of the site; improving access and opening the area up for walking, cycling and running.

Both the construction and landscaping contracts include programmes of employment and training for local residents, including both site management and horticultural apprenticeships.

“There is a shortage of high quality logistics facilities in West London and there is already a good level of interest in these first two buildings,” said Paul Weston, Senior Vice President at Prologis.

“The development offers tremendous potential for training and employment during the construction phase and we are working closely with QualifyMe, Volkerfitzpatrick and Whitings Landscape to make sure that we provide the best opportunities. We are particularly pleased that our contractors can offer apprenticeships to young people who live locally.”

Prologis owns and manages approximately 25 million square feet of logistics and distribution space in the U.K. as of December 31, 2015.
