Woodland covers all bases for GB Baseball
The Woodland Group has once again stepped up to the plate in its role as official transport and logistics partner for GB Baseball – Great Britain’s national baseball team.
Woodland’s first home run will see it transport, at no charge, the team’s equipment to the European Championships in Stuttgart, Germany beginning on July 23. Jason Greenberg, GB Baseball’s general manager, comments: “We are very grateful to Woodland for their continued support - they have enabled us to simplify our logistics and reduce our costs considerably, thereby allowing us to focus on winning baseball games for Britain. “We are indebted to them for their generous donation-in-kind.” Woodland is transporting all of GB Baseball’s kit, apparel and miscellaneous support items to and from Germany. Mr Greenberg adds: “Woodland will be handling our entire kit - without such assistance we simply couldn’t compete.” Kevin Stevens, chairman and CEO of the Woodland Group, said: “This agreement builds on a very long relationship with GB Baseball. We supported the team in its bid to secure a place at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games so we are in it for a long innings with the players.” The Great Britain baseball team competes at senior level in major international tournaments organised by the European Baseball Federation (CEB) and International Baseball Federation (IBAF), including the European Championship and the Baseball World Cup. Until the 2008 Olympics (the last to include baseball), the European Championship also acted as a route to Olympic qualification. Players on the team are British nationals who play for different clubs throughout the world, some in Britain and Europe, and others as far afield as Canada, the US, Australia and South Africa. Mr Stevens adds: “With tremendous experience in the shipment of cargo to and from mainland Europe and our track record with GB Baseball it’s no surprise that the baseball team has chosen to utilise our services. “It means a great deal that sportsmen at this level are prepared to entrust their tools of the trade to Woodland. We wish them the best of British in Stuttgart.” The Essex, UK-based Woodland Group recently relocated from Coggeshall to larger premises in Chelmsford, offering 70,000 sq ft of warehousing space, and has just completed a rebranding exercise after bringing a number of business divisions under one umbrella.
