The vision of the Logistics Institute is to establish and embed a world-class centre of excellence in global logistics, supply chain management and related technologies. With a truly international outlook, the institute is a focal point for all logistics-related education and development needs, working with organisations of all sizes and type, and offering academic expertise combined with proven commercial knowledge.

Established in 2006, and supported by the University, Yorkshire Forward and the European Regional Development Fund, the Logistics Institute brings together and enhances the University’s strengths in business logistics and communications technologies and is one of the few purpose-built, dedicated centres for logistics and supply chain management education and development in the world. With an international outlook, the institute has already developed strong, strategic links across the world and has a commitment to working with industry to improve skills, knowledge and efficiency in the supply, production and transportation of products, services and information flows.

The institute can offer focused services including benefit driven business analysis, consultation, planning and project management, strategic consultation projects, integration of new technologies into the supply chain, professional development and training and the provision of knowledge and networks. With an extensive pedigree in emerging technologies such as Automatic Identification and Data Capture (AIDC), item attendant data and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), the institute can also assist with their integration into the supply chain, including asset management and security.
