ECS sails into Multimodal with major presence
The core business of ECS is a short sea operation, whereby goods are transported between the Continent and the UK and Ireland. Means of transport are 45’ containers, which are shipped unaccompanied.
Shipping activities between the Continent and the UK are based on a ro/ro operation. This means that a wide variety of shipping lines is used between Zeebrugge, Oostende, Vlissingen, Rotterdam and different ports in the UK to guarantee the most effective and fast transit of customer’s goods. Containers are used as trailer-units but provide in this system the advantages of security, flexibility and lower rates.
Ireland is being served on a lo/lo base.
Shipments out of Zeebrugge and Le Havre to Waterford and Warrenpoint, are twice-weekly.
All activities are centralised and controlled out of Zeebrugge, which acts as central office of the ECS group. Satellite offices which act as commercial units, and give customer service support, are based in Venlo (the Netherlands), Le Havre (France) and Waterford (Ireland).
A central warehouse in Zeebrugge gives the possibility to enter into the customers’ supply chain and to offer integrated logistic solutions to and from the UK and Ireland.
